What question should I ask myself before getting into the modeling/fashion business?

One of the most important questions to always ask yourself before getting into the modeling/fashion industry is “WHY” do you want to get into it? Asking yourself this question will really put things into prospective and hopefully help you set goals on what you want to achieve. Getting started into any new industry can be very challenging and intimidating at times. This is why it’s always recommend to do your research and/or have a mentor to help guide you through the process.

If you are under the age of 18, do you need a parent or guardian to sign your modeling contract?

Yes! For the protection of the agency and the model, it is extremely important to have a parent or a guardian be aware and participate in the models growth of their career.

Even if you are over the age of 18, and still would like someone to come to a meeting with you, that is OK and totally acceptable. New environments can be scary sometimes. There are usually waiting rooms available for your friend or parent to wait in while you’re in the meeting with the agent.

When first getting into the industry, do I need to build a huge portfolio before shopping agencies?

The answer is no. In our professional opinion, it is always good to get some practice and to collaborate with other artists so you can gain experience. The agencies will then be able to see your potential. On the contrary, you can reach out to an agency with just a selfie and a couple full body shots. If they see the potential in you, they will be interested. Period!

Industry secret: make sure the photos that you do are “industry standard”. That way the agencies can use them to promote you. Best of both worlds.
